thwaites_movie.800Thwaites Glacier drains an area of the West Antarctic Ice sheet the size of Great Britiain and is currently contributing ~0.1 mm per year to sea-level rise, a rate which has doubled since the mid-1990s (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.gloplacha.2017.04.008).

The largest Earth science funding agencies in the United Kingdom and the United States have joined forces to investigate this Glacier in a project called the “International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration” or ITGC (https://thwaitesglacier.org/).

This animation combines images from the European Space Agency Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites to show how the glacier has changed over the last 3 years. Please feel free to download the animated GIF which contains appropriate attribution.
